The route to the Well of Dreams

The ring sits deep in the First Cellar, after the White Orrery Planet event. Expect heavy undead and Orog resistance along the way, so bring turning power and offensive spells.

  1. Enter through the broken door

From the area of Event 101, go through the broken wooden door and defeat the 6 Wights and 2 Master Wights inside. A wooden chest holds a potion and the stone coffin holds a Shortsword +2.
  2. Head for the square well

Exit to the hall, go northeast to metal doors leading southeast, exit from the far southeast doors, then go east to a room with a square well. Kill the 3 Shadows and take the Pike +3 from the well.
  3. Fight through to the Spinning Spire

Go southwest until a hall runs southeast, and clear the undead blocking the way — Wights, Spectres, 6 Mohrg and Orog Marauders. Turn Undead and Halt help; Mohrgs resist both, so lean on offensive magic there.
  4. Take the ring from the well

Down the hall that bears south, the eastern metal doors lead to the round well guarded by a Master Spectre. Kill it and take Aasirak's Ebony Twin Ring of Power from the Well of Dreams it guards.

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor Ebony Twin Ring of Power stats

Ebony Twin Ring of Power stats

  • +5 Strength, +5 AC, +5 Initiative
  • -40 Movement, -5 Dexterity, -5 to all saving throws
  • Weight: 250 — the walkthrough's author hit medium encumbrance with a Paladin

Because of the weight, give it to your strongest character, or leave it in the well and return once you have its twin. That twin, Aasirak's Ivory Twin Ring of Power, is found in the Archlich's room in the southeastern Second Cellar (Event 103): -5 Str/AC/Initiative, +40 Movement, +5 Dex/saving throws, casts 14 Level 20 Heal spells, weight -249. Wearing both cancels the penalties, letting one character keep the magic of both rings.

FAQ

Where exactly is the Well of Dreams?

In the First Cellar, behind eastern metal doors off a hall that bears south past the Spinning Spire, guarded by a Master Spectre.

Is the Ebony ring worth equipping?

On its own it is a heavy trade-off — great Str, AC and Initiative, but heavy penalties and encumbrance. It becomes excellent when paired with the Ivory twin.

Where do I get the Ivory Twin Ring of Power?

From the Archlich's room in the Second Cellar, during the Margoyle Bridge event.

Does this work in the 2026 Steam re-release?

The walkthrough was written for the 2001 game; the official Steam page states the re-release is the same core game with bug fixes, so the item should behave the same. This has not been separately re-verified in the new build.

Details above come from the AIssil walkthrough on GameFAQs and the official Steam page; the ring route and stats are player-reported and were not independently re-tested as of 2026-11-07.
