The key ring and the cell it opens sit close together, so you will not have to backtrack.
Where to find the Prison Key Ring
You reach this area late in the First Cellar, after using the Rusty Elven Key to open the metal doors to the center of the cellar. Follow this route:
Cross the courtyard
Head back to the square well and go south, crossing the large open courtyard to the ruins. Defeat the 2 Wights and a Master Wight waiting there.Fight through the east rooms
Go east through an open wooden door and defeat 5 Wights spread over two rooms. You can rest in the room across the hall afterward.Clear the Master Wraith room
From the coffin in the ruins, go south through a wooden door and defeat 4 Skeleton Lords and a Master Wraith. Loot the coffin and reinforced chest, then exit back to the hall.Reach the double doors
Go northwest to an open wooden door on the southwest wall, head west, then northwest past a row of arches. At the far end of this room, go through the wooden double doors.Take the ring
Northwest of the double doors you will find some common equipment; the Prison Key Ring is on the nearby table.
Using it on the cell
Return to the double doors and head northeast into a partition hall with a wooden door. Open that door and use the Prison Key Ring on the iron door beyond. Inside the cell you will find a Tattered Note and the Ring of Freedom, which can cast 3 Level 10 Freedom of Movement spells. A Revenant waits in the corner of the room, so be ready to fight immediately after unlocking the door. Behind the dark brick patch on the southwest wall is a secret door hiding a small treasure room.
FAQ
Is this the same as Bedlam Prison?
No. Bedlam Prison is a separate area reached through a secret door in the eastern Main Halls, where you defeat the Spectral Jailer for the Bedlam Haunts Quest. The Prison Key Ring belongs to the First Cellar prisons.
Does the ring open more than one door?
The walkthrough records a single use: the iron door in the partition hall near where you found it.
Is anything else in the cell worth taking?
Yes — besides the note, the Ring of Freedom casts Freedom of Movement, which is valuable against paralysis effects later in the game.
