Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor Book Guide

Yes, there is a Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor book: a novel by Carrie Bebris, published by Wizards of the Coast, titled Pool of Radiance: The Ruins of Myth Drannor. Community sources report it was also bundled with the collector's edition of the 2001 game, except in Europe.

What the novel covers

The novel follows the same premise as the game. A dracolich and his sorcerous queen have seized control of the Mythal, the ancient magic that once protected the elven capital, and the cult behind them plans to expand its domination one city and one soul at a time. The story's four reluctant heroes must stop them before the power of the new Pool of Radiance consumes Faerûn.

Its protagonist is Kestrel, a thief in Phlan who discovers the Pool of Radiance has refilled, then joins a party including the paladin Corran D'Arcey, the half-elf sorcerer Ghleanna Stormlake, and the guard Durwyn. Like the game, the plot revolves around the Gauntlets of Moander, the dracolich Pelendralaar, the archwizard Kya Mordrayn, and cleansing the corrupted mythal with the Gem of the Weave. A Forgotten Realms community wiki catalogues its full character, spell, and location index if you want a chapter-level breakdown.

Other printed materials

The collector's edition of the game contained more than just the novel. According to the Wikipedia article on the game, the box included:

• A copy of the Carrie Bebris novel (except in Europe)
• An original pen-and-paper adventure module titled Pool of Radiance: Attack on Myth Drannor
